Your favorite peanut butter?

I try to eat it sparingly but I do like to have it in the house. Naturally my favorite is good old Jif, but of course not so healthy. DH likes the natural pb from Trader Joe's, but I just can't get past the oil and the flat taste. Any recommendations?

Smucker's natural for us, too. That first stir is murder, but once stirred it stays stirred on the cupboard shelf, so at least there's that.

Makes me mad, because I read 35-40 years ago that they put the dry peanut mash in the jar and add the oil on top, sort of to prove to us that it's natural because it separated! They could just as easily mix it before they put it in the jar. It's the only kind I buy though, and with six kids, I've bought and stirred an unimaginable number of jars! Thank goodness it stays stirred, but that is also why it makes me mad that they trick us!

Brown Bear -- natural peanut butter, made in RI -- is THE best! Not easy to find, even here in MA, but when I do find it, I stock up.

DD loves the fresh ground peanut butter at Whole Foods.

Trader Joe's organic creamy peanut butter. I don't mind stirring; I use a long-handled bar spoon. Aldi's organic is almost exactly the same. Both are very fresh & tasty & easy to stir too.

Once Again makes a no stir classic organic that's delicious:

If you buy smaller quantities and grind it fresh, there is less time for the oil to separate and it is not as big a deal. Also, I grind a small amount into a larger size container, so there is room to stir it.

I buy whatever organic unsalted crunchy that is available at my food co-op. I open and pour off all the oil, then store it upside down in the refer.

I also buy a powdered peanut butter called Just Great Stuff (organic) and add water to make a great, non-fatty peanut butter spread. I just love it!

Just Great Stuff p-nut butter powder.

Hmm, interesting source of protein I'd guess; but how can peanut butter be non-fatty ... don't all nuts have fat, which is why you make oils from them?

I guess they remove as much oil as possible, then dehydrate it. By non-fatty, I mean not oily at all. The one I linked touts 90% less fat than natural p-nut butter. It's fluffy and totally peanutty, smooth - almost like peanut mousse. Try it!

Generic store brand. It is our hands down favorite and ++ it has the least sugar content!!

I will use powdered PB in protein smoothies but mixed with water and used like regular PB...I didn't like the taste.

Looks like the consensus is Smuckers Natural so it's on my grocery list. Jif is made by Smuckers but checking the labels Jif Natural has different ingredients than Smuckers Natural.

Jif Crunchy. But I do like fresh ground almond butter from Fresh Market too.

It's the molasses that enhances the peanut taste. Maybe you could just add a teaspoon to a jar of natural PB and get something close to Jif but without the hydrogenated oils.

Joanie, Holsum Old Fashion is delicious too. Just peanuts and salt.

Try PB with no sugar --- most of what people are reccomending here is just peanuts and salt ... nothing else.

    • My poor husband recently went cold turkey on salt. He's eating No Salt PB, peanuts only! It is surprisingly good, though.

I just ate my regular breakfast of Jif on toast with chia seeds. After reading all the PB posts, now I felt guilty about it. Unfortunately I have to work through a giant Costco container before I can try some of the healthier suggestions.

Well, d_gw, it's been this long, right? You'll live!

I rarely eat PB, but my hubby likes Jif Creamy.

joanie, I also use the powdered Peanut Butter now, and we really like it, it is so easy to mix with water and the calorie count is so much lower, 45 calories vs 190 for 2 tbsp portion.

The Smuckers is easier to handle on first opening if you store the new jar upside down. It also keeps DH from pouring off the oil, leaving us with peanut paste, ugh.

Just want to mention that on the rare occasion that I do have Jif, I like it! But I buy the Smuckers or fresh-ground for the ingredients and more natural-icity.

We have Big Y in our area and their store brand all natural with nothing added is by far the best. It tastes like peanuts. I made GF peanut butter cookies for a friend with celiac and she raved about them. Then she made them and said they didn't taste as good...it's all about the peanut butter.

Am I the only Skippy lover here?

We like the Wmart brand, tastier.

    furbabies like it too.

I have NEVER heard of powdered peanut butter. Sorry, it sounds kinda gross...

Powdered peanuts is delicious! I use it in a lot of deserts. It can be mixed with a sweetner and sprinkled on toast. It has an intense peanut flavor and is very shelf stable.

Where do you buy it homepro1?

    JIF baby! THE best.

Wholefood carries Peanut Powder. As a matter of fact, I have seen this at all local grocery stores. I am sure Amazon also carries it. I buy the PB2 powder but it looks like Jif sells Peanut powder too.

Another vote for Jif here, and not just because the recipe was invented in my hometown - I really do like it better than any other brand. I loved driving by the Jif factory when they were roasting peanuts; what a heavenly smell !

I adore peanut butter. (Especially when I turn it into cookies.) But I don't eat the all natural kind although I probably should. I love Jif, Skippy, creamy, extra crunchy... I especially love a spoonful of it after a workout. Salt and protein. A great combination.

Skippy smooth! Sooo bummed that it's no longer available in Canada.

Jif Extra Crunchy, Jif regular in a pinch.

Used to eat Smuckers but then tried Teddie, it's delish. We always have 2 jars in the house, Superchunk and Smooth Unsalted.

dh eats Skippy crunch. I abstain.

I insisted on all natural peanut butter for 15 years and coincidentally hated peanut butter for 15 years. Turns out I love the junky stuff. Guess I need the sugar!

Does no one eat Peter Pan? Yes I know it is full of sugar, that's why it is so good. On the other hand, I eat Trader Joes almond butter. I can't eat nuts but eat spoonfuls of almond butter.

This the perfect conversation to read while I gnash on my peanut butter and bananas.

I'm in Canada. I get Superstore's President's choice just peanuts crunchy variety. Love it on my bananas and in my banana ice cream. :)

Has anyone ever tried peanut butter and pickle sandwiches? I'm, um, asking for a friend. ;)

Skippy Honey Nut, but I cant find it in the grocery stores anymore!

jojoco, no, I don't eat pb and pickle, but I do eat plenty of pb and banana.

jojoco, I grew up eating peanut butter and dill pickle sandwiches! They are still a favorite comfort food. Yum!

I still remember it like it was yesterday, I was 4 years old and was just coming down with the stomach flu. My mom didn't realize it yet, though, and gave me a PB&J sandwich, that I promptly upchucked. To this day, I've never been able to eat another PB&J anything. But, to my credit, I didn't pass that along to both my kids and, like a good mom, I gave them lots of them over the years. Always used Jiff. The smell, though, still makes me nauseous, and with my kids grown and living on their own, I don't keep it in the house anymore.

My friend's DH and DD work for Kraft in the US, but Kraft doesn't sell their PB in the US. So as always when we head up north, I just picked up a big jar for the family.

I love peanut butter on bananas. I eat them all the time - we go through a jar of PB every two weeks. My favorite PB these days is the Wild Friends Cashew Peanut Butter with honey, flax and chia. It's creamy and not too sugary, but just sweet enough and slightly salty. Highly recommend.

OK, I'm back to buying peanut butter again (LOL)! Our Doberman, Knight, has been making too much mischief while I'm out running errands (hauling blankets, rugs, pillows, chew toys, etc. into the laundry room to wait for me there . . . while he nibbles on the said blankets, pillows, etc. ). My DD gave me this idea and I've been giving both dogs one right before I leave now: Stuff Kong chew toys with Jiff peanut butter (not totally full) and freeze. Both dogs love them, and no more mischief . . . thank goodness! I still hold me breath while I make them, though.

Omg-- I also love pb and pickle--preferably on rye bread! I thought it was my dirty little secret (ok, it still is.. ijust shared it with you all). I also like cheese and pickle sandwiches.

I haven't been buying peanut butter for the past few months but I generally like fresh ground or Simply Jif. I think the Simply Jif tastes much more peanutty and less cloyingly sweet than the other Jifs.. or other brands.

Funky, I don't see why cheese + pickle would be considered weird. Cheese is a savory to me, and condiments (e.g., pickles) are perfect with cheese.

Think of how peanut butter is used in Thai dishes with lots of savory things. It's not just a partner for jam/jelly or honey.

I still don't want any additives, esp. sweeteners, in my PB.

I love Nutella, especially with pretzels....yum!

Smucker's Natural Crunchy - I drain most of the oil before stirring.

BJ's brand -Wellsley farms, organic creamy PB. its just peanuts and salt!! Yummy!!

Never tried PB and pickles. Will do so on toasted rye tomorrow. Thanks for the new thing for tomorrow. I'm trying a new thing twice a week this year. One day is food another is whatever else there is. I'm spreading it out in case I react if it's food. Yes for the whole day I am listening to country music today. shania right now. Willie next...
