It is normal for the new growth flush to come in with lighter leaves. It will take a bit of time for them to green up as they mature. Very pretty tree and as long as the rest of your tree has nice dark green leaves and it gets good fertilizer I would not worry about it. :)

Why are you using chelated iron? Unless the pH of your soil is over 7.5; if it is not, you are only wasting your money on the chelated. BTW, your Cara Cara looks wonderful; I only wish mine looked as good; however mine are producing a lot of oranges, so I am probably not feeding them enough.

Thanks, my concern was these leaves are much more pale than the young leaves on my other citrus (Satsumas and Meyers Lemon), and I was not sure if it was a true orange thing, I had the chelated iron on hand for hydroponic projects so thought it might help, I don't usually use it on my in ground plants, as the native soil pH is around 5.6, and is a fine sandy loam soil overlaying mottled clay. As to the grass it all needs to be cut, but the teenager that usually mows the yard is on vacation with his family in KY this week, on top of that he was rushing and did not do a good job of weeding last time he mowed the day before they left on the trip. Also we keep getting lots of rain, with 3-5 more inches in the forecast this week thanks to the Tropical storm in the gulf, if it follows the forecast track the eye should pass right over us Thursday around noon.

A lot of out door growers recommend bare soil/mulch (not touching trunk) around the tree roots up to drip line, not just mowing. BTW do you get leaf miner whee you are?

Guessing what the deficiency is can cause additional problems. If you only guess at which micronutrient is deficient, then you can actually make the problem worse if you apply the wrong corrective nutrient because of antagonisms.

Silica is correct; and beyond that, in too high dosage Iron is toxic.
