The planters have good drainage because I have used them for years with out any trouble before.

they are already stresses.. i dont see how adding more stress by digging them out is going to help ...

cant you just move the pot out of the rain ... or cover it somehow.. to reduce the rain ...

ive been in severe drought for 6 weeks ... im not feeling to sorry for peeps with free water that falls from the sky.. lol ..

I am sorry that you have no rain. It is nice to have rain for the tomato plants, I agree but I did not realize the flowers were getting drowned. I do clean and sterilize my planters every year and always add new medium. I have moved them to an area that is sunny but covered and I was waiting for them to dry out a bit then I will add some fertilizer. Is that a good idea?

Patti, I so feel your pain as well!!!! My husband helped me build a modified cold frame/ hot box this year, and I was having the best year for seedlings and new perennials. I worked harder than I ever have, and my gardens were coming along nicely....

But this rain is killing our newly patched lawn and lots of my plants. I have spent so much mixing up new soil and pots and replanting, and it just keeps raining, arrrrrggggghhhhhhh!!!!

I wonder if the product you used to "help them root well" might have been part of the problem. I have never used such a product but I do know some plants react poorly to rooting hormone products and that it is possible to use too much of a rooting hormone to the detriment of a plant. So perhaps something similar is happening with the product you used?

If you are getting too much water/rain, adding dry soil will not do much good. Instead, if doing a repot, I'd suggest adding perlite to the soil used.
