What does the shelf do, can I put a plant. On it and if so how high

Is there a drainage hole in the bottom of the container

Hi Salkowski,
The shelf allows you to drop a planter inside and also reduces the soil needed. There is a drain in the shelf and in the bottom of the planter. The shelf sits 14-inches down from the top of the planter
