Due to the vigorous nature of African Violets, your situation is eminently salvageable.

Your plant will reroot just like a sucker.

I would probably remove a row or two of outer leaves, which should leave you with enough trunk to penetrate the soil level in your pot. Replant this trunk into the soil, keep it watered adequately,, and your plant should reroot in a few months.

I would remove the blooms, and take off a lot of leaves. I'd remove half the leaves on the plant . Less energy spent on leaves means more energy spent on roots. I destroyed many a root ball and had to restart many a plant. I have never lost one! Make sure the soil is not too wet and very light and fluffy. I've propped up the plant with toothpicks. Dome the plant like you would a sucker or leaves you are propagating.

I agree with everyone!!!! Great advice and don't worry,,,,it will be ok. I have done that a few times! lol I know it is not funny now, but it will be a learning experience! Just make SURE you put down the leaves you take off for two reasons-----backup insurance for you and,,,,,,,,TRADING POWER! YAY!!! Rosie

I just did some similar, not to your extent. The little sucker got a much bigger portion of roots while the big plant got a smaller portion.

Yeah, this won't be the last time it happens. And it has happened to everyone who grows violets. Just part of the learning process! Good luck!!!!

Thanks so much for the advice, everyone! I took off quite a few leaves and the flowers and popped the poor guy in a pot. If all these extra leaves root, I'll have a mini jungle of these!

My victim is the Optimara Crater Lake I just got from Lowe's. I guess now I have a ultra-robust sucker.
