I would pull the sofa out, put a narrow sofa table behind it, and place the lamps on the sofa table. Then, put the large piece of art between the lamps. It will put the focus lower, and you won't notice that the sofa isn't centered.

Your room will look better when you replace the end tables. Arm height and have at least one without legs.

Since the couch looks proportionately small in relation to the ceiling height I would look for something a little more free form ...rather than a large square piece of art ...perhaps a sculptural metal piece ...like branches and leaves...these things can be found in places like home goods ...are fairly well priced and can be expanded to the size you need by using more than one piece...some times they are too shiny or tacky looking but a coat of spray paint can bring them up a notch....I often find pieces at garage sales and use them in outdoor areas quite successfully

Difficult to make table suggestions without a more comprehensive picture ...but I will say the furniture looks lush...comfy ...and inviting and whatever you choose should offer a the same ambiance...something that you can put your feet up on..a little more substantial...the size of the couch doesn't really need a coffee table if the side tables are placed to be handy to use on the ends so an ottoman or even an old trunk would serve in front of the couch if that suits your style...

Without seeing the rest of the room, it's really hard to say. My general answer is that I'm not a fan of couches and seating pieces up against walls .... I prefer them to be out in the center of the room. And then I would use the main wall in a room for a console table or wall unit where the TV would go.

I never feel like round tables function well in L-shaped arrangements...there is really only one point on the curve that is reachable for use ..a square or rectangle offers access for use along the whole length of the table or ottoman...if you go for an ottoman have a little tray available to turn it into a spot for a drink or a snack..or the tv remote

If you have your heart set on art...try a taller bigger vertical piece to one side with a few smaller pieces next to it ...this offset arrangement will tie in with the off center location of the couch and the ceiling peak

What would help in terms of table suggestions? I do think I need a coffee table or ottoman to fill up some space but am a little worried about having too many bulky pieces. The sofa doesn't look very big, but it is 97" wide by 42" deep. Loveseat is adjacent and 70" wide. Side note, I am loving the round goldish table suggested above. This is another view.

This is a case where I wouldn't pull the sofa away and add a console and lamps. I think you need the tables on the ends to fill in the large wall. The trick is to ignore the vault and decorate as though the ceilings were 8 or 9 feet tall. The last picture leelee suggested is a nice option. What is your budget for artwork and tables? How high are the arms of your sofas?

Answering a few questions..... I don't have to have art on the wall. I am open to other ideas. It just looks so bare. I am planning to slowly purchase the remaining items I want, but in general I would say budget is 2,000 for tables and art. If I find something like an ottoman I absolutely love and is a little more pricey I would buy it and wait a little longer to upgrade the end tables. Sofa arm height is 25". I saw this ottoman that I like the idea of, but I think it's a little too narrow. Length is good though at 54 inches. I also found an interesting coffee table but it's too light and doesn't come in other colors.

If you keep the two sofas, a square table or ottoman is best. A solid, darker color would also help draw the eye down and ground your room better. I agree with ritasj that we decorate at 9' and below. Any sculpture that sits higher will just exacerbate the height without merit.

Something like this would add some interest and yet be large enough to serve both seating areas. Not sure about the layout in the room, so would need actual measurements to be sure.

Is there a "walkway" from the hall then between the two sofas? If so, then you need one coffee table for the long sofa on the far wall and perhaps a C table for the other sofa.

In that case, I would get a coffee table that is about 2/3 the length of your sofa because you don't want to be banging your legs against a table when you walk through the space. The C tables come in all shapes, sizes, and styles and price ranges. Pier 1 has good deals on them when they are on sale.

Love the ottoman! The wood brings in your wall color and warms things up. I would stick with narrow because your traffic pattern seems to go between the two sofas and anything bigger is just a bigger obstacle to get around. Beverly's idea of 6 framed prints can be done very inexpensively if you use standard size frames-say 2 rows of 16X20. I'd also consider just doing an end table on the left and a floor lamp on the right to keep the traffic area open. There is a walkway from the hall. So you can come around the loveseat on either side. Right now there is no practical place for anyone on the loveseat to place a drink. I was actually looking at those c type tables just to have for company. I also like that coffee table with the X's. I am trying to incorporate a few modern rustic items here and there.

Where are those tables from Beverly? I like the one that is 3rd down in the sets of 2. Looks kind of gray though so I am wondering if there are other color options.

A view from the other side of the room...( fireplace...tv shown) would help...After seeing the measurements of the furniture...it confirms the need for bigger tables ..but also seems like one table will not be able to serve both couches.....as to the feeling that there is an empty space that needs filling in the center...you may consider a thick lush shag or colorful patterned area rug...to fill that void and create a cozy grouping...since the furniture is so big maybe a good substitute for coffee table would be the totally useful little tables that are made to sort of slide under the couch and be easily moved to where and when they are needed...I always like the smaller lightweight easily moveable ottomans for the same purpose as the tiny tables...the big ottoman is gorgeous but impossible to move when you don't want to put your feet up

So this would be the view you mentioned. And just for reference, I measured the coffee table distance. It's about 32" from both the loveseat and sofa. Coffee table size is 28x45. The tables are from my old set that will eventually go in the basement.

To be useful, a coffee table should be within 18" of the sofa. I think I would look for something that works strictly with the sofa, add a floor lamp instead of the end table to the right of the sofa, and add a few narrow C tables like Flo suggested to be used at the loveseat. The chair by the fireplace could use a small round table to set a cocktail or cup of coffee as well.

Yes!! Getting a table for the chair as well. I like to sit there in the morning and it will be so much better when I can have somewhere to put my morning coffee.

I like the little C tables. They're usually lightweight and easy to move around. I bought one for $39 on Amazon. It had a black base I didn't care for but that would work well in your room. I painted it a bronze color and my sister painted the top while she was down visiting. For $45, I had exactly what I was looking for!

Set the furniture on a large rug. Get rid of the flimsy end tables and replace them with something more substantial (they don't have to match, as long as they're of similar volume). A LARGE piece of art (or a gallery of six or more pieces) is a must. Wider, fuller drapes would help.

I already mentioned I know I need new tables as this is a work in progress. I personally don't like the rug over the carpet look. Not to offend anybody, but I find it tacky and a trip hazard.

Ok, so I have been looking at wall art and am starting to narrow down what I like. I am not a big art person at all. I am leaning towards something canvas, maybe 60" wide (couch is 97"), abstract, but I am not sure on color. I can play it safe and go neutral.....or I am not opposed to the idea of throwing a big splash of color on the wall. Any input on some of these options below? Not super crazy about the purple flower one, but I do like the color if I could find another canvas.
