I may be biased, but I would say YES!!

I say live in it for awhile. In the mean time change out those knobs for some new, more modern looking pulls. It will really change the space.

I say do the countertops and enjoy them. By the time you're ready to sell which may be longer than you expect, whoever buys will expect the better countertops so why not enjoy them yourselves. And change out those pulls and light too. Those are inexpensive things that can be a big bang for your buck!

Just to help me make a decision I would get an estimate or two . The bath counter looks very small & stone businesses have a stock of remnants that could be used. It all depends upon your finances. Since the bath is such a small space I would update that first. A framed mirror, lighting, counter, paint ( prime first!), new faucet & I'd lose the shelf piece of laminate over the toilet.

I'm not sure I'd put stone counters on top of older kitchen cabinets until I'd lived there long enough to know that (a) they layout is good, and (b) the cabinets are actually functional and sturdy. Otherwise, the money is essentially wasted, as future buyers will feel guilty about throwing out new counters in what they otherwise see as a gut kitchen. For sure, I'd get my self a high-arched kitchen faucet, though, as it makes washing out pots way easier! (an advantage of new counters is that you could also get a large one-bowl undermount sink, another big step up in function, but not necessarily worth several thousand in stone to achieve!)
