Check out the native honeysuckle, Lonicera sempervirens, especially the cultivar Major Wheeler which in my garden is long blooming and disease resistant. For many vines you will need to staple wire fencing or concrete reinforcing mesh to the fence since the wide boards don't offer anything to wrap around.

Sorry, currently no pets as we live on a very busy road. However, when we did have cats, they never ate anything outdoors but rodents, rabbits, and grass, never garden plants, and I have/had plenty that are toxic if consumed.
