Looks like a mash up....how does it work? Wind? batteries? Is there a key? let's see the key hole if it's wind.

It operates on batteries, but the flap you lift up to get to the battery thing is wooden, and has a screw in it. Oddly enough, the flap isn't the same shade of red as the rest of the clock. I thought that it may have at one time have been wind-up, but I'm no clock expert (or antiques expert for that matter), so I could be wrong.

Where would the key go? Is there room for an escape mechanism?

Since it is battery driven, it would not have a key, and I doubt that it is an antique. I'd class it as a good, decorative find.
