identify pest

I know the picture is a bit blurry, but can someone identify this bug on my seedling? Is it a thrip? That's a pest I've heard people complain about a lot in the garden forums. I thought maybe spring bug with the way it jumps if I touch it, but those are supposed to live in the soil.

I think it is too big to be a thrips but might be an immature leafhopper. The shape is about and the hopping is definitely their thing.

Agreed. Looks like it is about one molt away from becoming an adult leafhopper. Not related to thrips. Adult and nymph leafhoppers suck juices out of plants, and if numerous or concentrated, can deform or stunt new growth. Simply shaking your plants lightly will reveal the population.

Thanks for the responses guys! I've only seen 2 or 3 so not a big infestation. Could this be why some leaves are curled up?

Possible but not with just 2 or 3. Some years I can shake a plant branch and a hundred fly off--and there are no curled leaves. The adults will actually expel tiny water droplets and these can be felt and seen if backlit by the sun.

Lol, those water droplets are excretions.....waste from the large volumes of plant sap they feed on.
