Jubaea chilensis problem

As a student at CalPoly, I harvested some coquitos from underneath a large Chilean Wine Palm located in the courtyard between the Education and Business buildings. I scattered them in front yard (unirrigated collector's garden) of my home in Camarillo. Eleven of them sprouted. Most of them are in close proximity to one another or to other valuable plants. I transplanted one into a fifteen gallon pot this past winter where it has languished and I don't know if it will recover. I'm seeking advice on how to both preserve the remaining palms and the other plants.
