I think to help the landscaping the house details could be tweaked a bit. The shutters on the big windows are not appropriate. And the other shutters are undersized. If you were to replace them with louvered shutters in a dark olive green, the color would brighten your brick and connect the home to the front yard.

A good rule is to not place tall plants in front of short plants. Your hedge is not tall. I would have low perennials and annuals in front of it, nothing else.

Your garden does not look large and I think it may be over planted.

Someone mentioned peonies, but I understand they are a draw for ants, so you don't want them close to the house. I like hydrangeas on the north side where they do very well. Azaleas are always a good choice. If you stick to dwarf varieties you won't have issues with them over-growing their welcome. Sprinkle in a few daylilies for color once the azaleas quit.
