No offense, but how would a GAS only (not electric vented) water heater ever add to any electric bill?

My gas water heater uses no electricity. My gas water heater is in the garage, so it does not effect the temperature inside the house.

Okay, guys I am not a techinican that's why I'm asking, so your saying my gas water heater doesn't add to my electric usage? Because doesn't the 'pilot light' depend on electric at least?

My gas water heater uses a thermocouple for the pilot light, thermocouples produce their own electricity. I suspect there are electric ignition gas water heaters, but have never seen one.

What brand and model water heater do you have. How old is your gas water heater?

Do you know where your electric meter is, and do you know how to read a meter?

Just looked didn't see the model but its a 'State Select' made by State Industries and is an "Automatic Storage" unit. Yes I can read my electric meter and know where it is. It is now 10 years old and is in my attic (two-story).

No, the pilot light uses no electric, and if yours has a pilot light that's proof that it doesn't have electronic ignition, so it uses no electric power. Zero.

If you did have electronic ignition, it would operate for seconds at a time so would add only a tiny amount of electric usage - well under $1 per month.

Bottom line, it's so small an amount that you won't see it in your electric bill.

An electronic ignition, gas fired, water heater uses only an almost immeasurable amount of electricity, and only when the water heater is calling for the gas burner to be lit.

Thank you my brothers! Just wanted an honest answer for once! Thanks to Matt too!

State makes electronic ingnition and electronic controls water heaters. I did not see the Select line, I read about the Proline line.

Does your water heater have an illuminated control panel? If it does, it uses electricity.

To determine how much electricity, check the owners manual or measure using your electric meter.

No it doesn't have an illuminated control panel. Thank you Matt for doing some homework for me.

Not all gas WH use little to no electricity.

A powered vent (or direct vent) WH would use some electricity for a blower motor which brings in combustion air and pushes out the exhaust. Not very much, but some.

I'm going to have to call a service man out so I can find out exactly what type I have so I'll know whether it's pulling any electric....
