Bindweed root pieces in compost?

I have a big pile of compost with bindweed growing all over it. The compost is mainly from lawn mowing - grass and lots of shredded alder leaves accumulated over many years.

Yesterday I dug out a small amount and it looks great, very soft and fine. But the bindweed roots go very deep down, and even though I am cutting them with the shovel and hand-picking pieces as I dig, I'd need to sift the compost to remove all small root fragments.

So my question: is bindweed really able to regrow from small root pieces? Like this:

Can/should I avoid sifting? Should I avoid that pile of compost altogether?
Do you have any other suggestions for how to "safely" use this compost?
