Wow, love the corrugation! Mine gets direct sunlight from sunup until around 1:30 followed by shade. It actually gets brighter in July. Happened to take some photos today...

I sporadically get three colours on it: yellow, dark margin, then sometimes (although not uniform) a light apple green as part of the variegation. I think the sharper contrast is achieved through lower light or shade- I have only had mine since May 2014 and it has not been growing in the shade.

Hopefully those peeps more experienced with Brother Stefan can offer some insight. :-)

My Brother Stefan, now 8 or 9 years in my garden and about 4 feet wide, is in dappled shade. One of the things that I love about it is the intense color. Another is that each leaf is different.

The first picture was taken in morning light.Here it is after 8 PM, about an hour and a half before sunset. You can see how each leaf is unique.

I guess my plant is getting too much direct sun and I will have to relocate it. With the bright centre I guess I assumed that it would need more sun.
