Paint the covers. Prime first then two coats. They also make these covers so they completely blend in. I bought mine at Home Depot and they were cheaper than this! Like a buck or two at most.

Just wanted to share how things turned out...

We ended up with industrial style curtain rods in a gunmetal finish and was able to find some clearance gunmetal finish plates at wallplate warehouse. It's the second time I've found exactly what I was looking for with this company. I recommend them if you're ever stumped!

Sound like a good choice, but what is the name of the company?? I also do not like painted switch covers, and I have brushed stainless steel covers in my kitchen. If I were to change them, I might try gunmetal. My problem was that I had to get rather small covers, as some of the outlets were placed too close to the backsplash.
