There is a lot of stuff online about that. You can grow tomatoes with little sun. Your productivity will be low, however. The "minimums" that people talk about (6, 7, 8 hours of sun!) aren't really meaningful, except for what one could call "optimal" productivity.

My son lives in Minnesota. He grow Radiator Charlie Mortgage Lifter and Juliet under some tree coverage in less than ideal conditions with good results. He uses Garden's Alive Tomato fertilizer as directed. I can't guarantee performance, but it's certainly worth a try for those big tomatoes! :)

In my experience growing in a yard where there are only a few spots with full sun, I find that cherry tomatoes do best in partly shaded areas and don't suffer too much in the flavor department. The larger-fruited kinds aren't very productive without a lot of sun, and what fruit they produce isn't as flavorful. Since I grow tomatoes at home for the intense flavor of varieties that don't get grown commercially, this is a key factor for me.

But if growing at home purely for fun or for health reasons, economic reasons, etc., I would bet there are some very productive hybrids that might give you a decent amount of fruit in part shade, even if the flavor isn't peak. Also, an early, smaller-fruited OP type that is known for good production might produce (Stupice and similar, etc.).

maybe you can find some genetically engineered shade tomato ;) but there really aren't specific variety of tomatoes for certain environmental conditions. you can try growing anything. worse case scenario your big beefs end up being small cherries. hopefully there is at least a few hours of direct sun.. by the sound of it, when you say pine trees.. it reminds me of.. a forest.. i don't know many sunny forests. maybe you can clarify. is there at least some direct sun?

In one of my very early garden days the tomato plants that didn't get enuff direct sun had blossoms but no fruit aka blossom drop.

These days I prefer cherry or grape tomatoes cuz the larger tomatoes that will cover a slice of bread only end up going to waste. The smaller tomatoes you can just pop in your mouth and nothing goes to waste.
