Hard to tell without seeing it, but my bay laurel has to stay in the shade. It gets just a little morning sun but is shaded on the patio most of the time. I think yours might be sunburned.

Mine did this too this month.. I left it out in the sun a little too long. Last year I had it under the patio by now. My michelia figo got fried as well but they both will come back.

it's almost impossible to overwater a potted plant outside in 100+ heat. your problem is not overwatering.
