Carol, It is perfectly fine to use Marble on Bathroom Counter tops. Once it is installed, it needs to be properly sealed and taken care off. Make sure not to use any ammonia or acidic solutions to clean it. It will probably needs to be resealed once year. You can get guidance from your fabricator. I have the same dilemna. Which is better for marble countertops/tub deck in a master bath with double sink vanity 9' long....2CM or 3CM? Is there a better choice or is it just personal preference?

It is just personal preference, how ever in my opinion 3 cm stone looks much better

I am not thrilled to go with 2 cm. The place selling the product is saying 'it's fine' and they recommend reinforcing the marble with a piece of wood and then doubling it ad the edge so you end up with 4 cm. Does this sound right to you?

Yes, that sounds absolutely fine

2cm is fine, ultimately the stone itself should be sound; free from fissures, cracks etc and the craftsmanship should be sound, anchor & clip system for under mount sinks and material sealed with a premium impregnating sealer. We provide our clients with all range of thicknesses. Often with 2cm the design incorporates a laminated edge or it is mitered and bonded to a thicker cubic edge.

Is 2 cm usually cheaper than 3 cm?

Yes typically it is if ifthey have the materials in their stockyard. If they have to purchase an entire slab for your project expect to pay more. A fabricator can't forecast when he will be able to use material next so this is typical and not unusual in the least.

What does their proposal say? Did they confirm in clear terms in the proposal that you were buying their inventory material or that they were procuring a specific slab for you? Carrara pricing shouldn't vary by too much. But it seems the scope of work changed and what was initially enough material now is not.

Thanks for your comments Gem Marble (this is regarding another discussion). They did not specify anything about another client on the original proposal. I'm pretty certain that the 2cm they are trying to sell me was a remnant piece because it was in their yard leaning on an A frame. I do want an apron edge detail...would you recommend a 2cm for that or a 3 cm - or does it not make a difference with the edge detail? Another question I have for you, the 2cm is honed but they said they would polish it at no charge. Does that do anything to the integrity for the 2cm piece? Thanks again.
