Celebration Bermuda Cooked

Hi

I sodded 900 ft3 celebration bermuda in Houston on June 24th. I watered it twice a day (it was in the 90s) for 4 days straight and it was greening up perfectly. I then went on a two week holiday. I set the sprinklers for 20 minutes every second day while I was away. I believe there was a lot of rain while I was away and the temperature was in the 90's. When I got back the ground was moist (not soaked). The established lawn I have next to this lawn looks great. I am still trying to work out if I watered too much or too little?

my lawn guy came over while I was away and cut the sodded grass - and did NOT bag the clippings. So I had a lot of dead grass laying on top of the new 7 day old sod. This probably smothered the grass and trapped in heat and created a hot bog. Disaster.

Lesson learned - never sod in middle of summer in the 90's.

I will wait until the end of summer then rake up this mess and start again. Another side disaster was I had a new tree (podocarpus henkelli) planted just 4 weeks ago. It is on the same sprinkler zone as the new sod, so all the extra water drenched my new tree and is in the process of dying also. Cant win.
