The table the previous owners had in there is definitely too small. Are you asking for a new layout for your kitchen too? Or is it just the dining area you'd like ideas for?

I would put the table on the opposite side they had it. Then you could use that bright window area for your seating area.

Thank you for responding. @Carolins - I will not be changing the kitchen layout. I just wanted to include that area so that it shows there is an actual island there. I really need ideas for the dining area. I have no idea what to put in there as far as what size / shape table. And what other pieces I may be able to add to it.

If you run the table the other direction, more near the other end of the room, it may give more space/but also could impede the walkways...What do you want to do? If a table were run the other direction, more towards the space where the buffet-piece is, the window area could become a seating area....I am sorry, I cannot tell how large the room is/if there would be enough space to run the table in the way I mentioned.

In our home, the dining table (we have a huge one) in our open plan living area is the place where people like to be. We have it near the window so we have the view of our garden. People just love the informality of sitting at the table, reading a magazine, having coffee, a glass of wine...
But it depends on your lifestyle.

I'd go for a large rectangular table with comfortable chairs. If you don't need the ceiling fan, I'd remove that and have a chandelier of some sort (modern or classic, depending on your style) above the table.

Another option is a round table. Can't really read the dimensions. Is it 12 ft?
