A couple years ago we replaced the lawn with scotch moss and leptinella. It was about a 70/30 split of leptinella and scotch moss starter plants, randomly placed. Both are very healthy and growing in very well. However the leptinella spreads much more vigorously than the scotch moss. It is now starting to grow around the edges of the scotch moss mounds and in the centers too. (Each scotch moss mound is approx 1ft to 2ft wide)
I would like to know if I the leptinella is going to eventually choke out the scotch moss? Grow over the tops of the mounds? Should I be trimming the leptinella back, giving the scotch moss mounds more room to spread and increase in size? In some spots I pulled the very edge of the mound up from under the leptinella, and let it sit on top of the leptinella. (To kind of give it room to breathe? but I don't know if that actually achieves anything. )
Any insight would be much appreciated. I love the way these 2 ground covers look together and I don't want the leptinella to take over the whole area!
