Help needed with master suite

Hi! I have recently added a master suite to my 100 yr old farmhouse.

We are to the style/decoration stage and I need help picking wall and cabinet colors and lighting for the master bedroom and bathroom. We have a floor, and the shower/tub tile already chosen.

I prefer vintage/traditional/timeless and my husband likes geometric/angular/contemporary so we are having a real hard time agreeing on anything!

Firstly. Do you think this chandelier would be suitable above the tub? It has angles which my husband likes but still looks like an older piece which appeals to me.

Open to suggestions for vanity lighting. We do not like anything with a shade, and prefer the cups to point down to minimize dust catching.

Bathroom wall color: My husband wants navy. I prefer a seafoam/muted light green, or a light grey. Like these...

He is willing to compromise on the wall color if the vanity can be navy. Would this look terrible with one of the above wall colors or a light grey?

Lastly, our master bedroom will have blue/grey walls and wood trim/floor. Our bed and furniture is black. We are having some built ins around the tv like this:

How should the built ins be finished? Black? White? Wood? I am so lost.

I know I have a lot of questions and I truly appreciate any help I can get. So thank you in advance.

I would not add more black if you already have black painted furniture. Too much black can be depressing and dark, IMHO.

I'd consider painting the built-in to match the trim in the room like your inspiration photo. I like the chandelier but check out electrical code for having a fixture above a tub. Not sure about the navy with the seafoam. Try out some color strips from the paint store together to see how they look. What is your counter top material going to be?

The navy looks great with marble and white,I'm considering it for my own bath.

I like the material you've chosen so far, looks like you're heading in a good direction.

Our trim will be wood stained. Would wood trim, built ins and floor be okay or too much?

So you think Navy is a suitable bathroom wall color? What color would you paint the vanity then? Our countertop will be marble or marble look quartz.

Thank you so much for the input so far.

We have one of each wall color- Denim in one bathroom (Sherwin Williams) and Healing Aloe (Ben Moore) in the other. Both colors are fun.

Well I'm leaning towards the navy walls, but now husband is saying he would rather have the vanity navy... So what color would you recommend for the walls that would look good with navy?

    Grey.

depends on your other finishes. as I see them now(nice choices btw)-I agree with Hockeymom

(otherwise many colors would work with navy..if speaking theoretically. can write down a whole long list..gray, white, black, scarlet, blush pink, fuchsia, orange, kelly green..almost you name it. but it needs to work with what's already chosen, and I agree gray will work nicely with the floors, the tiles, and the navy in the vanity)

as for the built ins question..really have to see a pic of the room in question for that, to answer that at least somewhat in a responsible helpful way. not just built ins..the whole room

PS grey or gray? I was taught "grey"..but then saw "gray" prevailing. Each time I correct myself. should I? sorry for the OT

I really like grey/gray (lol). Our bedroom with be grey/blue and our living room is also grey. I'm still going to try to talk husband into seafoam walls and a grey vanity but we'll see. I think his heart is set on navy.

I don't really have any pictures. We are just at studs right now...

But here is a rough floor plan of our new master suite April. The 9.6' wall at the end of the bed is where the built ins are planned. My big issue is that if we center in the tv on the wall it is going to be way way off center with the bed. Is that okay? We will put the tv on a swivel so it will be fine to see, but I am worried about the symmetry.

Our bed is a metal black frame. I have not purchased the night stands yet, but planning on black. We are going to have 3 sets of french doors into the closet. I also have no clue what color they should be. Black? We shouldn't have any other furniture in the room.

Here is the closest image I could find of our trim color. Ours is this same stain but a little more saturated. I am so lost on what color the bathroom/bedroom door, closet doors, and built ins should be. The doors we have picked for the closet are paintable but not stainable.

I am currently thinking black for the closet doors, and stained for the built ins and interior doors. Although the bathroom trim is going to be white. So ugh. So many different colors going on. Maybe I should just use white for everything and be done with it.

ah..got it. no room yet. been there, done that..not easy

ok I need to re-read your post attentively think some more..meanwhile two things:

    a) don't fret..you have enough time to figure out this..maybe more that you'd like to have LOL

    b) don't "just use white and be done with it". I mean you can, if you decide that's the best, but give yourself a luxury to contemplate over and decide. I know it's a headache believe me, no, believe me, but you're building..you can choose, consider, plan..it's hard but use this opportunity that one rarely gets.

So much depends on the style of the house(you know it..we don't), the feel, the light it will get..the whole big picture.

Haha. Sorry I am so confusing. I will try to give a bigger picture.

We are currently adding on to our very traditional farmhouse. The current house has hand sanded and stained plain craftsman type 6" wide boards for all window trim and 4" for all doorways. In the kitchen and bathroom the trim is painted white rather than stained.

Poor lighting/color but here is a picture of our trim.

We will be continuing this trim throughout the new addition. Entire house has lots of light and window.

We don't currently have a "style" in our bedroom. We knew our room was temporary so I have no decor. They only thing that will be moving to the new room will be our black metal bed frame.
