Say hello to Mickey

A male toy poodle, adorable beyond words. I am puzzled, as breeder showed me pics of mom & dad, who are both honey colored. A litter of 4 was all black. Does that make sense or was mom

fooling 'round?!!!

    So precious!

How old is he? I remember reading that all poodle pups are born black but can change color as they get older. Poodle people, is that true?

I think so. I always wanted s poddle but my dad doesn't so we have a schnauzer!

We took Mickey for an initial checkup and vaccines. Vet said blonde parents carry other color genes and pass on to offspring. If pooch receives black hair gene from both parents, it will be permanently black. If not, color will change in varying degrees. Also happens with schnauzers. My schnauzer was jet black and over time, from being outdoors, has a bleached (slightly) muzzle and a little silver in his legs. I'd say you'd still describe him as black, though.

mickey has a clean bill of health and has already display a predilection for shoes.

Keep us posted on Mickey's puppy hood, we love pictures !!!

Be careful what you wish for. I will be one of those insufferable moms posting pics every 15 min.

I'm concerned for my schnauzer as he looks sad/jealous of all the attention the newcomer is getting. I'm trying to be as equitable as possible but a baby simply requires constant attention. I sure do hope schnauzer recovers.

A stoic schnauzer not understanding why world not revolving around him

    Is that a schnauzer?

Never mind I just read your post!

    I also have a black toy poodle! She's 13 now. :)

When I was growing up we had a white miniature poodle. She was bred with what we called back then (60's) an apricot male. They had one litter together, I believe 7 puppies. 3 were white, 3 apricot and 1 black. I wonder why they never mixed colors (like a paint horse)?

Anyhow, enjoy your new baby! He's adorable!

Share_oh, so yours stayed black? My little boy is doing so well. I think he's gonna be another little Einstein.

glad to see he got a clean bill of health! i know how hard it is to find enough time to devote to multiple dogs. since i've been retired, each dane gets a mommy day. we go shopping at the farm store and wander through the pet store. some days we buy something, other days we just browse. maybe you could do that with your little schnauzer guy, just to make him feel special. :) by the way, he's adorable, too!

Mickey is doing very well with his pee pad training. He's growing and getting lighter in the face

OMG that looks just like my little gal! She got a little lighter in the face, but not till she got older.

Are you going to get him a poodle cut when he's groomed? or do you like them natural? I like both.

Natural. The Pom Pom look is not us

So playful and beautiful and happy. I love seeing him bite on kitty's ears, who, to my surprise, puts up with it.

I've been playing the youtube version of the Mickey song by Tony Basil. Every time I do, he stops whatever he's doing and stares at me, not knowing what is expected of him but suspecting the "noise" has something to do with him.

I have a miniature schnauzer too and when I got my puppy I made sure that the schnauzer was "first" in everything. I put his bowl down first. When I walk them I put his leash and collar on first and he always walks on the left. They are great friends though they don't share a bed or anything like that, but my schnauzer knows he is #1 and when he passes on, the girl will become #1 if another dog comes into the family. It's hard because a puppy is so cute, but it's good for the puppy to see the older dog as a role model and makes everything easier.

Can you post a picture of your schnauzer? This is mine!

What a beautiful boy! I adore their intense eyes. I'll look for a pic.

Here is Banyon (schnauzer) and Puddy (doxie). Back in March we registered for 2 nights at the Galvestonian in the TX gulf coast to celebrate DH b/day. Small pets allowed so we all celebrated in fancy comfort. My Doxie was almost 14 but got very ill and passed quickly recently. They were great buds. The schnauzer was lost w/o Puddy, now he's just annoyed with the new toy poodle

He posed for me. There are those soulful eyes that look as if they're reading your mind.

The schnauzer's slowly getting used to the newcomer. But he wishes he were the baby, as evidenced by him sleeping in

    the tiny poodle bed.

LOL I love that picture!! Your pups are all adorable. This is my Schnauzer, Fred.

Here is Mickey at 9 mos. I like black dogs and chose him accordingly. His parents weren’t black, they were silver and peach, so as time goes by, his fur is changing. I am a teenie tiny bit disappointed that he is not the jet black pooch I first saw but in the scheme of things, the change means nothing. He’s the smartest, most adorable and cheerful little guy. You can scroll up to see the changes.

Bossy, he is gorgeous. Black would be pretty too, but his marking make him unique and really eye catching. I love his eyes.

He is so smart. Also the first dog we’ve had that actually watches TV. He recently went to be groomed. His winter sweater really matted his fur so had to be scalped. Looks so puny! I’ve vowed to brush him daily henceforth so we don’t have to scalp him again. Not a good look—pin head with extra long legs, ha

He's very cute, really! Button eyes, button nose. You are sure enjoying that dear little one. I'm glad he changed color; he looks good.

Socks, his new call name is buttonface. You are right about button eyes/nose.

    I can't believe, its real!
