It would work. I have a rooted Hoya vine that I potted up and the pot just didn't look full enough for me. But instead of just cutting it I coiled the vine up in the pot and pinned it down to the soil at a few of the nodes. It rooted at every spot that I pinned down.

Why spend extra money, though? I have 100% success air layering just with saran wrap and sphag moss or a damp paper towel.

Wrap the area you want to root in the sphag or paper towel, cover with saran wrap and use an extra plant clip, twist tie, or tape to secure it. Every couple of days, unwrap just the saran wrap and mist the moss/towel lightly.

I just thought it was interesting.

I think it is cool and easy for those of us who might not be on top of things to get out there and make sure they do not get too dry.
