The bubbly leaves remind me of over-fertilization in pepper plants. Did you fertilize?

That is a very good thought and thanks. I do fertilize with compost, alfalfa meal and chicken feathers. The soil tests came back with a low nitrogen reading so I add nitrogen. But perhaps the beans don't need it. They are starting to do a little better now. Thanks for your idea. I will keep it in mind.

Long beans AKA yardlongs, asparagus beans respond to different conditions than bean (P, vulgaris). They are a subspecies of cowpea and have very low nutrient requirements. It is possible that that you have over done the nutrients. They are also susceptible to root diseases. Aphids also can do a number on the Vigna unguiculata group including the transmission of viruses.
