What is this uninvited guest?

This year, out of nowhere, this daylily-like plant has appeared in several places in the yard, including, as seen in the photo, within a bed of planted daylilies, which are Stella d'oros and have come up each year unmolested for quite some time. The invader has blue flowers and looks like a variety of daylily, and nothing that we have planted. As mentioned, it is also growing at random spots elsewhere in the yard.

Can I attempt to control it by pulling it up?
