Windowless Room

My family moved recently, and since I'm moving out soon my parents gave my siblings the actual bedrooms, and I'm sleeping in a room with no window. We are all aware that it's against the law to have a bedroom without a window, so please don't comment about that. I'd like some ideas to make the room feel more open and less depressing while I'm staying here. Any ideas?

    Hang in there :)

Mirrors can be used to expand a space and bounce more light around. Beautiful art can provide interesting "views." If your parents are up for it, painting the ceiling a light sky "haint" blue can give a room a beautiful lift. Any shade will look darker on the ceiling so go lighter than intuition would say and avoid grey-blues so it doesn't get gloomy.

Keep your room super, super tidy without a lot of small knick knacks and trinkets.

Remember, you can always leave your room and spend time just looking out a favourite window if you start to feel too closed in.

On a personal note, if you feel like you are getting truly depressed reach out for help from a trusted adult.

I like a well lit room. Make sure to have a table lamp or wall sconce in each corner at chest height.

Mural a wall.........! or a nice big chunk of one! The lighthouse is 13 x 8 feet. 149.00 : ) Every minute in there will feel like a vacation.

What is your favorite outdoor view? Water(like above), mountains, cities, etc? You can find inexpensive posters on ebay, places like Michaels, or even Walmart. Get the largest one you can find. You don't even need a frame, just use pushpins. A mirror will help as well as good lighting.

You can buy or make a window where the glass is replaced with mirror. Then use lots of lighting.

Hang a picture of a window. I've seen this done by people who have an interior office. I had windowless offices in two jobs and nearly lost my mind. Better to have a lack of windows when you are sleeping rather than during the day, although it makes waking up hard. https://www.zazzle.com/window_view_ocean_poster-228144627952032207

I love the illusion that drapery can create.

Floor to ceiling, essentially a 'wall of fabric' could really create a cozy look.

You can use a combination of wall decal of a scene and layer drapery over it:

Stationary side panels give the illusion.

Annnnnd...look at this London hotel's solution...using the combo of cityscapes and mirrors!

Look at cruise ship cabins for inspiration. I'm serious.

Definitely a ceiling fan for some kind of circulation/ventilation.

You're most likely too young to remember, but there was a time most of the old farts wanted to live in something like "Jeannie's bottle", lol!

Wow! All these ideas are great. The one above actually looks like a window. Make sure you have lots of lighting too as mentioned above. I think you have an opportunity to turn this into a beautiful room with the ideas you have been given. Have fun with it. :)

I'd totally go with the I Dream of Jeannie room! Or the cruise ship. Make it your hideaway nest for sleeping, and find another part of the house to be your open space where you spend a lot of time. You will be moving out soon, so trust me, you want your family time now.

For me lighting is key. Get as many lamps as possible that you can position around the room. I would do fluffy white bedding.

If the room is small, try to keep it neat and uncluttered.

My DD's loved sleeping in dark rooms and would use our finished basement for sleepovers all the time.
