I feel your pain. My grandmother made me rip whenever I made a mistake sewing and I HATE ripping. Hope you get it done quickly.

Thanks for all the commiserations, everyone. I mentioned it to DH and he gave me a blank stare and then went back to watching TV. (I'll remember that the next time he screws something up.) And yes, better to catch it early. I actually completely sandwiched, quilted and bound one other quilt that I did the same thing. The last row had upside down stars on it. I did NOT take it apart and re-do. That's why on the last quilt I finished with stars I purposely made them go in every direction.

Yes, deliberately scrappy or non-directional can save a lot of angst and hair pulling!

I used to work in a tourist bureau that had a quilt on display directly across from the customer counter so I looked at it a _lot_. It had those pinwheel stars on it. One whirled in the opposite direction to all the others. Used to drive me nuts!

Was that quilt by any chance an Amish quilt? From what I understand the Amish always put a deliberate boo-boo in a quilt because they believe that people shouldn't be so full of pride to try to make a perfect quilt, only God is perfect. They might not do that anymore though. I've read where they now even use forbidden colors like yellow and prints in their quilts for sale on the outside.

No, it wasn't an Amish quilt. I don't think we have any Amish (or similar) anywhere in Australia. It was made by members of the local quilting group.
