Know nothing about curtains

Our master bedroom is somewhat of a leftover room, and I should at least be keeping my eye open for curtains. The one pictured was a shower curtain and is down now. None of our rooms have curtains, so I have no idea what to buy, but I want one in this bedroom because of the sun and streetlight. I have some light blue/ teal storage boxes (like the light blue on the buffalo's eyes), the wall colour probably will not stay forever, but changing it is very low on the priority list right now! Any suggestions?

I see shades, but no rod??? Maybe the rod is very slender and not showing in the photo?

You can find, "light blocking curtains" on Wayfair, Target, Overstock.... Just pick the color you like. Most are panels so if you are trying for a quick fix you could buy multiple and close them to make them look for full vs. a flat panel. Sounds like you are fairly, "quick fix" correct me if I'm wrong please.

The shade is there, does that not black the light? I'd just go with a solid color that you love(such as the blue tone in the art piece) that ties in with something in the room as you will probably have them open by day.

    Target Rowland light blocking curtains

just be sure they touch the floor so measure for the length as most come in different lengths.

Yes, there is a roller shade, but I find the light shines through the sides and the curtain softens it. There is a curtain rod just out of the picture.

Would a solid blue be just too much? Maybe I'd like a pattern but honestly I've never seen a curtain and thought, "Oh, I like it, those are nice curtains".

To play off the exposed wood of your bed...I would suggest a Woven Wood Roman shade!

These shades in particular have an operable liner, PERFECT for bedrooms!

Woven wood shades not can have operable linings, they can be created with permanent lining. And with a Top down/bottom up operation, you literally have everything at your fingertips.

    sharayak you are too funny.....

I'd select a color that as you mentioned ties in to the blue in the art piece (eye area) that are close in a solid. Then, I'd get a throw for the bed to tie in to that curtain color that has pattern... you seem like you lean simple... that to me is the best option.. you can add some color with the blues in the curtains when you choose a replacement of the green blanket you have currently. That's my thought on this :)

If you want to do shades as posted above that is another great option... can be a bit pricey, but looks very nice. Just be sure to measure from the floor to the rod and allow that the rod will reduce the hang a little so they touch the floor and and are not free floating some place in between.. it's ok if they are a pinch longer and sit on the floor unless you have a cat like I do.
