Curtain advice

Hi. First post :) Just moved into this house and the curtains are from a previous owner. I think they're fine but is there a better alternative for the space? They're long and they're off to the side because they're covering up my 'closed' vents from my finicky fiddle leaf fig trees loI What other window coverings would look better? I know I need a coffee table (so hard to find a good, large one) and art! Planning to place a 65 inch tv above the fireplace because there is nowhere else to put it. Very open space with kitchen on opposite end. Any suggestions/comments are welcome!! Thank you!

Personally, I don't care for the placement of where they're tied back, and would prefer straight hanging panels. In order to have them hang straight, you would need to install a longer rod. The vents could still be covered by the panels.

Lynn, yours look very nice!! And so does your room-especially the kitty:)

Yes, I would install a longer rod & possibly a lighter fabric-2x width so they don't look skimpy.

Some leave the arch uncovered and mount the rod at the bottom of the arch. See some examples in this link. http://www.homedit.com/10-arched-window-treatment-ideas-that-keep-their-beauty/

Thanks so much, everyone! I will lower the curtain and get a longer bar. Peppapoodle, you have me thinking about new curtains now (wasn't planning on spending the money!) I want this space to look great and I'm not the best decorator but I know what I like. Any other suggestions for the room?

You have a lovely room! I would place your curtains just like Lynn did. You would want to lower the rod to just above the half round window and use a longer rod as she did.

If you keep those curtains I would try and pull that color into some other areas of the room. I do not see the color of the curtain anywhere in your space.

Do you have a coffee table? Also, some art would help liven up your room. I think you could also use some end tables.

I would add several lamps so you have more than just one source of lighting. In Lynn's photo of her room you can see the softness the lamp provides.

Aktillery9 thank you! I was just thinking the curtains didn't really go with the rest of the room and that something lighter might be better :) I found a coffee table that I loved (baluster type) but it's $1200. We have tools to make one...but do I have time for that and will it look crappy? lol So far though, I'm enjoying the process!

Hi,Enjoy the new house and everything that comes with it.Even the expenses .I agree with all previous ideas, straight, longer pole.As it is now it doesn't look bad.So when you have and find what really speaks to you....GO FOR IT.

Double the panels, especially if you're using a thinner or unlined panel. Fuller draperies have a more professional look to them. I love what Lyn has done.

Do you mean put two panels on each side or use use a double panel rod? Yes, Lyn's looks great!

I wanted to suggest that perhaps it might be more cohesive if you painted the ceilings the same color as the walls. It would blend in the high pitch and make it seem more cohesive. I am wondering if perhaps a glass coffee table with a metal frame might not look good? Not necessarily this finish, but you could add books and other items of interest on top. It would be nice to have various finishes and textures in your space.

Glass table? Sure!! Paint ceiling? Noooo...noooo...no...just no. I am all painted out! Just the thought of it makes me want to cry. Lol I guess I could hire somebody but...y'all sure are making me think and expanding my horizons and I'm definitely thankful ☺️

Atlantamom, NO it is not necessary to paint your ceilings. It was just a thought. You have great furniture and a lovely room. You do not need much to make it your perfect space!

I know, aktillery9, I appreciate all your thoughts. I'm in the process of finishing painting an executive desk (what a nightmare!) so I'm super sensitive about the 'paint' word right now lol Now I'm off to Google glass coffee tables! I like your idea of various finishes and textures, etc.
