Another watering question

I mostly use impact sprinklers as I have a large lawn and they cover the most area. However, I find that they don't put down that much water (1/2" in 3 hours), especially if I've got it going in a full circle. The smaller the area the more water it puts down (i.e. if I have it set at the end of my property and only covering 180 degrees, it definitely puts down more than a full 360 degree circle).

My question is; is 1/2" in 3 hours normal for a full circle? Should I try using a good oscillating sprinkling as that might put down more water but cover less area? Or I guess I could set the impact ones to not shoot as far, which in theory should put more water in the smaller area, but then I'm defeating the purposes of covering a large area.

Thanks for any thoughts/suggestions!
