I prefer the dark myself. The white seems washed out with the rug. I also agree that with wine, dog, life, a darker sofa is a better choice. I don't think your space will look too dark at all- looks quite bright and airy to me. Plus, you could add some lighter throws with pattern or texture and color.

Thank you! We are planning on moving the rug into a different room altogether and will buy a new rug:)

So if you did buy a new rug with some darker and lighter tones in it, white could definitely work.

Go dark and have the sofa Scotch-guarded to protect from wine stains.

Dark really seams to be everyone's answer! I suppose I should listen to the majority:)

What is the material of the light sofa?

its mostly polyester with about 8% linen. It is super soft and feels almost chenille- like. The darker is 86% polyester and the rest linen and isnt as soft but seems more durable.

I would upgrade my fabric choice to Sunbrella, which does add $600.00+ to the price, but I would rather see an off white than a dark gray in poly/linen.

Does the sofa have to be reclining?

Nice, Bev….

the sofa has to recline because my husband is adamant about having a recliner of some sort and i just cant fathom having a big clunky lazyboy in our home. It was our compromise. The TV was also a compromise- he had tried 2 even larger televisions over the mantle that I made him return. I agree its too big, but I still have to play nice- that's where he wants it:) We just moved in about 3 weeks ago so, I am hoping for a configuration that works with our current set up and we have talked about painting the fireplace etc in the very distant future. I absolutely love your ideas for when we get to that point. Thank you!

Of the two choices posted, the darker one actually looks better. However, like others stated you could get the lighter scotch guarded.
