hi. I bought about 30 bare root strawberries from ebay a few years ago. I think only like 15 or so sprouted but oh well.

1st year after planting = got some fruit.

Now is the 2nd year since planting and I got a lot of fruit (rabbits/squirrels eat them all though - I gotta put up a small fence).

They are ever-bearing and starting 2nd round this year with a lot of berries begging to form which I might cut off because I want to move the location of some of these plants and want them to focus on root development before winter.

This is in zone 6/7 NJ by the way in mid summer.

I'm not sure at the moment if they are producing runners.

If they're making runners, probably a stupid question, but if they are running and I propagate the runners, then the new plants from runners will be "new" in the sense that they will not slow down berry production since the are from a 3-year old mother plant, right?

Side question, how to you make bare roots? I know propagating from runners would be better than making bare roots, but I'm just wondering where bare roots come from. When I search about bare roots, all I find is how to grow them, not create them. Are they basically just propagated runner that are left to root about 4" and then they are uprooted and the leaves are cut off?
