I know I'm odd man out but I would neutralize with similar but possibly different but close paint shades I posted above. That big wall could handle some very cool bold paintings. I would also showcase sculptures or other works of art and or interesting furnishings and accessories. And, plants!

Great idea to try out a really bold color with a sheet of a similar shade. I am going to try that in my bedroom!

I'm usually not a fan of accent walls, but in this case I agree
that a coral on the far wall to pick up the color of the wall hanging in the living room will bring the lanai to life.

I wouldn't want you to go to the trouble of painting that room again. By the way, you did a wonderful job in the kitchen, it's elegant and also not cookie-cutter, really cool.

I would go with the coral theme to cut down the coolness of the gray carpet. By the way, it's not nearly as bad as you think. For starters, I would paint the white lampshade coral. Next, why not paint that brown chair in the corner a glossy coral? Find a patterned pillow with coral, navy and green. Green plants by all means, and large dramatic paintings. Try the plant you have inside by the TV outside. It's a good size and will make an impact. Try the runner you have in the kitchen out there just to see if something similar would look good. Right now all the large pieces out there are white. Can you find something else to put there? The large piece in front of the window especially doesn't look particularly happy there. What about seating? If not in the budget now, maybe later, or try thrift stores that have "gently used" furniture or Craig's list.

Above all, don't be hard on yourself. I drove my poor husband crazy with doubting everything I bought, and talking about it (in a negative way, of course) endlessly. One thing that helped was to finally figure out that I was happiest with warm colors in medium tones, and once I chose those everything fit with everything else. Greens, blues and grays can also have warm tones, so I didn't have to sacrifice colors; they were just a little muted. Pastels on the other hand leave me cold, perhaps because they don't look good with my green eyes, light complexion and honey colored hair. I love different colors together so I have a lot of pattern. Your taste may be completely different, but try to find out from what's in your closet what makes you feel the happiest. It's a process, and you will make mistakes. You'll make fewer and fewer as you go along. Forgive yourself and look for ways to make it work.

You need FURNITURE out there! And art and a few plants! Use the coral either on the furniture itself or for throw pillows. Leave everything else as is. No accent wall - no coral on the walls - the room is too small. Right now you have a coffee table in front of a window. You need a sofa or loveseat with the coffee table in front of it.

You have a nice neutral space. Use your upholstered furniture for the color you are lacking. Even white duck slipcovers would work - then add bright throw pillows.

I wouldn't repaint. You're right that it needs to flow seamlessly from the living room and you have relatively little wall surface showing anyway. Keep that neutral and let your furniture and art and such shine. Honestly, if i was going to paint anything, id go white on the wood trim, but many others will disagree.

Start by adding color--art, furniture, pillows, whatever you can. I see purple tones in the grey as well, so I'm not sure about coral with that, but that could be my screen. Play around with colors you have (even if it's t-shirts or something like that) and see what you like.

ETA: I really like the grey carpet, it's neutral, but I think that's good for carpet!

Actually, upon further thought, I wouldn't paint the wood trim. Instead, try to add more of a similar toned wood (maybe a midcentury modern type look). I think that would go a long way towards warming it up. Also, if the white shelf is looking too cold and stark, you can easily add a stained wood top to it.

I like the carpet a lot and I think you should set the room up add some colorful pillows and start living in it! You did good! Love your kitchen too! Looking forward to a "house tour" soon...

It's a beautiful room! I'm not so great at picking out colors, so I don't have any specific color advice. In general, though, I'd start with throws, pillows, putting things on the walls, etc. I don't know if you sew at all, but, you can get all sorts of fabric to make your own pillows or even to make runners for your tables (an easy thing to try out vs painting furniture or anything). I wouldn't paint the room again, at least not for a while. I'd work on slowly adding colors with pillows, throws, maybe a table runner, wall art/hangings, maybe a big plant or two, etc. You can always decide to paint again later, if you decide you want to do that. But, if you do decide to paint again, my advice is get a large piece of cardboard or posterboard or something and paint it with a paint sample, so you have a large sample to move around the room. You have a beautiful home.

a bit of OT..carrie, you gave me an idea..I have an Otomi runner similar to yours..in different greens..I used to have it out but now it's neatly stored..a missed opportunity ..I always thought that in order to put it on a wall I'll need to frame it etc and it's crazily expensive..now I see yours though, and really like it..how it's secured to the wall?

add something in your beautiful cabinet color in that room. you need something darker to contrast those two neutrals. using white will emphasize it. it's going to be great!!

I like the idea of adding color with accessories better than repainting. It looks very nice being the same wall color as the living room.

The carpet is pretty - looks like marble. The wood trim is great.

The room lacks color, you have pale on pale on pale.

I would match that wall hanging color in paint and paint the end wall next to the hanging.

Put an Otomi shade on the all-white lamp and paint the base something bright from the shade's colors.

I don't think it looks horrible and certainly can be worked with, but I do see the cool tones of the carpet and a warmer white with the warmer wood as well. I'm wondering if painting the wood trim a white would help. because when I look a the white record holder and the walls and the carpet alone it seems to work better for me when I block out the warm tones of the orange wood (on my screen it looks orange).

I'd always prefer painting the wall rather than the stained trim unless the trim is a planned and wanted redo..you can't go back on trim, you can repaint walls as much as you like.

I love the trim here stained too, my personal preferences are not relevant though.

I just think walls are much easier to tackle than trim and more flexible a decison.

Agreed can be worked with as is, depends on how much it makes one inquiet. Sometimes you can work with something for years, sometimes it just brings you down and is easier to bite the bullet already. Carrie'll be the only one to know I guess..:) We're not there.

As for the carpet tone..hard to say, as on my monitor it changes from pic to pic..devinitely has lilac in it on some, in the close up though I'd say it's pretty neutral gray on the cooler side of the spectrum..slightly blue-gray? I've no idea whether my reading is 100% correct. But as such should work with other flooring and kitchen pretty well.

So I do think that different lighting on the lanai changed off white enough to make it look like a bit different color. happens often enough. I repainted one of the baths after LEDs were installed since they totally changed the color. I loved the color when they're were off..:)

If you paint an accent wall, what about brighter green, tone like the sofa, or a chartreuse? And then accessorize with a little coral?

I would buy an area rug you like and call it a day for now, Then see what else you want to do. Adding some color in pillows and art will help. I think the rug color is what is throwing things off and limiting you. You could do something as easy as a neutral jute or sisal.

Havingfun, 7b is my garden zone in AL. What is not "real" about what I posted? It is a reproduction? Except for the watercolors I have that my uncle did, (and I treasure), I couldn't ever afford an original of anything. I just buy what speaks to me. Monet and van Gogh are my favorites. Wow, I expected to see a disaster, your room is just fine as it is but, with help, it will shine. You DO have good taste, that kitchen is yummy and your decor is lovely.

I think we've all been there. I once painstakingly choose wall colors, including painting many, many, many sample swatches. I made my final choice and the painter came while I was at work. I got home to discover that the yellow I had chosen for the powder bath, while great in a small patch, was really, really awful when on all the walls. Like, felt like you were using a bathroom on the sun level bad. When I sold the place it was literally the only thing the realtor told me I had to change before putting it on the market (I'd been too lazy to repaint and just lived with it).

All that said, I'd agree with others that you need more color in the room. It could come from repainting the wall. If you go that way I'd swatch large samples of the color you're considering (and get test patches right up against the carpet if possible to see how they work together) and look at them at various times of the day to see how they are affected by the changing light. It could also come from accessories and large scale art that would cover much of the wall with a single, colorful piece. I have no problem with a rug over boring carpet (it's what I have, actually), but given that you love the feel of the carpet I'd avoid that option, as then you lose out on the cozy toes.

I agree with the others who nix the idea of coral on the walls. I think it can be a tricky color like nosoccermom said.

Wow! You have got a lot of ideas. Could you post as you go? I really like to see the process. As you can tell, I don't care about original or not, I just like the finished product. I would almost kill to have a sunroom like yours.

I just want to add that I am in your shoes! But even worse. I redid an entire bathroom - new shower, vanity, etc. a couple years ago and now I am tearing it out and moving the bathroom. :(

Anyway, I love your design aesthetic! I see an eames chair and mcm furniture...my favorite! Your blue kitchen cabinets and white subway tile are awesome. I dont think the carpet looks that bad at all and honestly it looks so plush and comfortable. I could see laying on the carpet with a book or my computer. I'd just add a pretty runner - blue maybe? and some colorful pics as described above by justerrilynn.

I am rather color-challenged, but fwiw..I think it would be interesting to consider some of the blues and/or purples in the room (along with some large green plants).

As a couple of others have noted, I also think I'd try to find a new home for the record shelf. It looks like it comes right to the bottom of the glass in the windows, covering the trim, and when combined with things on top it just looks too tall for the space, blocks your awesome windows, and looks a little too cluttered, at least for my taste. It also makes a narrow room feel even narrower. If this is the only possible home for it I would likely at least clear off the top so it doesn't block the windows any more than necessary.

So I may be the odd one out (admittedly I didn't read every single comment in detail) but I see some sort of green on the walls, similar to the foliage you see through the window or maybe a light sea foam green color. I think it would make the room feel more like it part of the outside. Maybe paint the trim white to break it up a bit and tie in to the living room. I think the green would go well with what is going on in the kitchen also. I see this space as a place to relax and collect your thoughts, to wind down. Pop some lougne seating and pillows in there, accent rugs and maybe some white drapes to break up the wall color and this room would be fantastic.

This is if you want to go brighter and more fun. Nice accent colors too. Pick up on the corals and reds if you decide to go that route.

And using a pop of color in this space is okay. You have the sliding door metal trim as a transition if you want to do a color different from the living room. It doesn't have to be the same color as the living room if you don't want it to be.

Could the record shelf go on one of the end walls? The vinyl will be much happier away from the windows.

I would do some sort of long low seating / narrow day bed / bench where the record shelf is on the window wall. You can find these in different colors. Or, for vintage used perhaps reupholster.

To me this makes better use of the space. The room appears long and somewhat narrow. I would do some sort of record storage on the big wall with lots of colorful art. A few plants here and there. Some cool low partial open back chairs could be moved closer (from other side) to long low seating for entertaining. Or, just stretch out and enjoy the music on a nice sunny day.

Okay..., We have kinda got off topic. Carrienations, was asking about paint colors and the carpet. Not furniture, ect.. Personally, I would not want another couch next to the living room. And no, I would not put furniture back in a room I thought about repainting!!!

Carrie, what wall color did you decide on? If anything I would leave the ceiling alone and paint the walls a light warm gray.( If you aren't into a really bold color.) And no, I would NEVER paint the window trim. I wish mine wasn't painted.

I thought about this quite a lot. I love the grey carpet. And your blue kitchen.. Is there any way to bring some shades of blue/navy/aqua into the sun room? As pops, as a custom wall, pillows etc?

Once you paint, your have to keep painting. It builds up unless you strip. Paint chips and cannot be touched up well. Stain you can touch up. I have painted windows and trim and I would like stained windows and either stained trim (best) or stained windows and painted trim (Fixer Upper).

When I looked at this on my ipad the other night, I was picking up lavender or violet from the rug. If that's the case, maybe you should go with cool colors like the ones in this fabric. I'm not suggesting the fabric itself, just the color combination. I used to make summer skirts out of Liberty's cotton lawn for myself, so I only know it as a dress fabric. The fabric then was only 36"wide. I didn't look to see what it is today.

Do you need that big storage unit against the windows? It's actually blocking a lot of sun from the floor that would contribute to making this a cheery and pleasant room.

Neutrals (like your gray and white) often seem to be easy choices, but they can also backfire, in that your eye is searching for something to look at, and not finding any color or pattern to see, you just focus on small details of your neutral surfaces and then start nitpicking and finding inevitable fault. If you had some gorgeous art or textiles or a lush flowering plant, your eyes would luxuriate there and not even get started on the wall color.

Actually I don't even see the issue you're concerned about. Perhaps the paint tone is a bit off, but the photo doesn't really convey it. What you really need is to get some well-chosen and well-arranged furniture and accessories in there. A colorful area rug, a pair of bright lounge chairs, a tea table, a few large bold plants, and this could be a gorgeous retreat or gathering area.

The picture you liked best showed the paint in shade, not bright light so maybe you would enjoy a darker color on the wall. Paint a big piece of particle board, bring it in and set it up. Take another picture where all you see is the new color and the carpet and see how you feel. Your carpet is very nice. New paint and fun art/ fabrics could make you very happy.
