For a more modern look, I’d make the wall above the bed a feature. A decorative wall light could work really well there — especially a moon-style design, which would add an interesting focal point as well as softer evening lighting to the bedroom.

By “design” do you need help with organization, color, storage, function — all of the above? For starters a floor layout with measurements, doorways, windows, heating elements would help a lot. from my initial observation: Roman shade or cellular blinds window treatment. Nightstands on each side of bed with drawers for storage ( look at all the small items stacked on top of nightstand and storage cabinet). Flat storage containers that slide under the bed for out of season/seldom used clothing. Tall wardrobe - is this the best location AND do you have additional closet space. A comforter in colors /pattern that gives you a modern look. Limit number of throw pillows in this design — the room appears to be small and pillows take up a lot of space. Look for statement art pieces to enhance the modern look. The small photo on wall should be in a narrower display wall and hung much lower. A bedside lamp tall enough for reeding and allowing more light in the room. Newer lamps also have USB ports for plugging in phones, etc.

Also see if bed can be positioned with headboard under the window with nightstand on either side.

I'd leave the bed where it is. Moving it under the window would make the window and plants awkward to reach, and the room already looks tight. The quickest update would be plain bedding in a light warm gray or cream, with one dark blue throw to connect to the wardrobe and curtain. I'd also hide the loose cable along the left wall in a white cord cover and put the small things from the cabinet into one closed box. That will make the room feel cleaner and more modern without adding more furniture.
