Never use a steam cleaner on hardwood floors! The steam forces water into the wood and it will get in between the finish coats, causing the finish to appear dull and cloudy. Or worse, it could cause the finish to start peeling off. This will also void your product warranty.

Dust mop and vacuum on a weekly basis. Use a specific hardwood floor cleaner when necessary. Never use any product that says "refresh, restores, shines, protects" etc. Damp mop with the cleaner only, never wet mop.

When I had prefinished hardwood, I found hands and knees and Bruce cleaner and floor wax worked well...later on I found that a carnauba wax product gave a more lasting shine, but needed an electric buffer to polish it.

Sometimes, simplicity is the key. You really don't have to splurge on Shark Duoclean and other overpriced products.

Dry dusting, vacuuming and damp mopping are the first line of defense. Daily dry dusting, will keep your prefinished flooring in top condition and for nooks, crannies and corners you would switch to weekly vacuuming with natural bristles to restrain damage to your floors. Lastly, use damp microfiber mop with the cleaner, the one that is suitable for your floor.

I would recommend using the dust mop for regular cleaning and for deep cleaning I rely on Murphy’s Oil Soap.

I have read way too many negatives about Murphy’s Oil Soap on any type of wood flooring. I would be petrified to use it.
