Show us what else is going on in the room.

IMO, the brick is just fine. I would leave it go, there is nothing wrong with the condition or the color. However, I would paint the mantle and surround (the white) something softer than the bright white, maybe a creamy white, or something else.

Please post photos of the room including the furniture. Is the red brick the only color in the room?

I'd paint it. doesn't exactly go all that great w/the mantel you've chosen. If it were mine I'd choose a tile and tile over it.

But, you could start with a white wash and see if you like that look. If not, try a dark charcoal color

doing a split faced quartz tile on it would really make it look nice. not that hard to do either

I'd get some white chalk and try chalking over the brick. Then post another photo. If you don't like it you can wipe it off or if you do like it, you can go ahead and whitewash it. I'd want at least a slight contrast, so I wouldn't paint it white.

When you whitewash this kind of brick it gets a grayish undertone that will work with your design.

I like the white wash idea.

I don't have the phone app. On my laptop you hover on the Your Houzz in the upper right and its on the drop down menu. Also when you open an idea book.

I like the idea of GREY but not DARK grey I think that would be too.. I dunno Adam's Family? I was thinking a soft grey ...sort of mid tone.

This is so pretty, and there's no need to WAX this chalk paint it's all built in.
