In my garden, blues more shade, yellows more sun, greens and variegated depends on location.

Wish there was an easy answer. Zone 8b. What latitude? (Where are you?) I am 9b but about the same sun angle as St. Louis. If you are more southern forget straight sun, and go for early morning sun then shade. The glaucous bloom on the blues melts in the heat. Ones with too much white can get burn out on the white areas. Some have such wonderfully think leaves that not much bothers them.

Do your neighbors have them growing in the sun? You know, hostas are rather easy to move so get some you like to look at, and if they start to suffer...move them until they are happy. There are a number of species that do better in the south, so you need to do some research for where you live. Is there a local hosta society? They would be able to tell you EXACTLY what grows well in your neck of the woods.

What a yellow vs green ? I've seen green but not sure I know a yellow.

I'm in SC, hot and humid. I found,a better spot for the upset ones I have, just thought if I have other spots I may want to know which to look at.

Check Don Rawson's lists. Of course your computer colors may vary, but if you compare apples to apples, and oranges to oranges on your own computer, you will see the difference. Yes they call them yellow, sometimes gold, (old name) but mostly they are chartreuse...very light green. There are a few that first come up in Spring that look like yellow flames. Then they turn more chartreuse to light green. But compared to the greenies, they are much lighter, hence the term yellow. Check the terminology at the American Hosta Society website for more info.

I was just looking at Rawson's lists last night trying to determine which of my Hosta can be moved into more sun. I was very surprised to find that 'Blue Angel', 'Blue Mammoth', 'Krossa Regal' etc. are in that list. Does it mean that they will survive but lose their blue tone?

For me, the blues and greens burn less in true full sun. The greens fade though, so they aren't as pretty. Some blues, I suspect most, loose their bloom in full sun but grow well. I have a couple of blues that hold there bloom well into late summer and fall. Yellows do well in part sun/part shade but scald - brown burns - in too much afternoon sun for me. I know this is different in different climates.
