crabgrass invasion

last modified: 9 years ago

Hello

I purchased a house last fall in southern Virginia. Because I purchased it so late in the season. I did not do anything to the yard other than regular mowing. Mid spring I decided to aerate and overseed. Since i'm not really a lawn guy I did not put down a pre emergent so now this summer my lawn has beeninvaded with crabgrass. I need to know what I can do this fall to be on the right track for a healthy lawn next spring and summer. I would like to aerate and over seed this fall but with so much crabgrass I'm afraid that the grass seeds will not germinate. Any solutions will be greatly appreciated.

Also i'm not quite sure about the brown spots. It maybe due the summer heat or it could be some type if grass disease.

Going to take a closer pic of the grass this evening. Planning on doing a soil test next month.
