I was thinking of making my own mailbox out of left over marble slabs I have. I just wasn't sure if these boxes have to be approved by the postal office. Would you know? Or do you just write "US MAIL" on them and their good to go?

By the way, the most important thing for USPS - to have mailbox set up right. Like on this picture

Cool! What is "hand-forged"?

@Schafer, that means the metal was thinned out and molded by hand (maybe even heated) with a good old fashioned anvil and molding hammer rather then using a roller. You can see the hammer marks. Adds to the rustic look. Though some people cheat and roll it then beat it up with a hammer lol. But you would still see parts that are way to smooth.

I work only by hands and with new wood and metal. And other new stuff, of course. But that means - that all rustic look happens after I'll age my art. I hand carve wood, hand forge metal pieces (sorry if I saying something wrong, my English still not so great). All my art work goes through centuries and starts from 1700's. This is or family style. So I keep wood in it's own beauty, showing it more clearly. the same about metal - I don't use the old pieces, but new, so then any kind of art will work very long time. Because even it looks old - this art piece is new ))

Thank you! I try to create one of a kind mailboxes, like other art furniture, so no one of my customers has identical ones! Just unique personalized mailboxes!
