Foyer redecorating

So recently got floors redone and walls painted. Now want to update the look of entryway table and mirror (mirror too small and table too close to floor color). Looking for an accent chest to fill the space with some storage capacity. My style is transitional, leśnicy modern but not contemporary but I also love farmhouse/rustic. I like clean/simple lines. A little glam is ok but nothing too fancy. Here is what I have now. Thank you for all your helpful advice.

    Love this one too.

Love most of the chests shared above. You also might consider checking out Home Goods, my local store often has chests that would be perfect for an entry. Some are very similar to those already suggested. They are generally under $300, some closer to $100. Good luck with your search.

So I love the one on the Houzz link but is a 48" cabinet in a 60" space too much?

You have 6" of wall on either side. I don't think so is your ceiling on the higher side as in more than 8ft?

Take painters tape and tape off the height of the table and the length centered so you can better see it. Tape 36" tall and 48" wide I believe it was....centered naturally :)

    • Stemware rack behind left door.
    • One adjustable wine bottle rack/shelf behind left door.
    • I JUST READ THE ABOVE... CERTAINLY YOU DID... the bottle rack is adjustable so can be removed I am sure... however, says there is a stemware rack behind the left door for wine glasses I'm sure so naturally it's narrow and on the top of the under mount to slide the base of the glass on to, but wanted to make you aware as I just went back to double check dimensions. Not sure if you saw this part

Make sure it's not too deep.

I just happened across this while looking for something completely different and thought I'd toss it out to you.

The one from AllModern looks nice but how would the black cabinet look against the dark oak floors?

Yes gavavemom..... it's a size maybe a little more like wanted. I had looked at your post with the brown similar cabinet mock up and felt the floor had a bit of red in it looking at your mock up and the piece you posted. Could be lighting and the floor is the same as the cabinet? Not certain.... appeared to have a little warmer tone to it although dark.

I just looked back up to try to see other photos of the floor... this has light coming in so has a warmer tone so won't blend in. Good thought!

Yes floor does have some red in it but really only can tell when light shines on it. This is a more truer representative of my floor.

My husband is on the computer with Photoshop so I had to lasso this to remove the background so excuse the lasso job!

Ok pulled the trigger. Looks great! Now need to figure out a mirror, lamp, decorative accessories. Let's start with mirror. Thinking round may be good. Thoughts on mirror, lamp etc is very much appreciated.

Looks great and darker than the floor which is great! I know you were worried it might be the same wood!

Round mirror is a good option!

gavavemom, what is the size of the wall from edge to wall at stairs?

Is the new table centered or is it the photo making it look off to the right?

burnished gold, thinking a dark spare frame vs gold.......?

Yes, I measured and recentered so 12" on each side remain. Where do I find mirrors like this?

Many out there.... just need to deduce the size best for the spot by knowing the wall size and the size of the top left and right of the table top so you don't end up with a mirror too large or too small. Do you agree a darker or maybe try a minimal silver tone. Not liking the gold mocked up.

No thinking a darker wood maybe good. With mirror in cabinet, it is reflecting a lot of light.

Is the ceiling really tall in the foyer? I'm thinking you might do an oval to eat of some of the space if it's a tall wall. I do like the round though. Here is a black frame vs. gold which to me looks better. It is just a mock up... Don't know the size you need without the table top width as I don't remember it.

Table width is 36". Yes, ceiling is really tall in foyer, cathedral length.

Love this one, it has great reviews, on sale. chest

Yaya, she's got the chest already.

I also like a round basic mirror. In the past, I've seen good ones at PB, CB2, IKEA.

Thanks Sueb, guess I should have scrolled up and I will right now.

Since the table is 36" in width if you go with a round of 26" then you have 5" on either side of the table top at the widest portion of the round. Do you want to try an oval?

    Nice choice, it looks great.

Consider an oval vertical mirror. Lots on this site. Hayneedle

Here is the oval suggested to eat up some of the wall height. I need to crop out your lamp :(

I think the oval since you got back about the tall ceiling might be a good option.

    24x40 very thin black frame

Possibly too much, but mimics the shapes on the chest -

it's 24" x 24" and there are several others on the site - LINK

I think a tall rectangular mirror with a dark frame and just a bit narrower than the chest will work better with the tall ceilings. There's a photo above at 12:27pm that shows what I'm talking aboIt.

So here's the thing, that wall butts up to the stairs, so max height is 50". Mirror would definitely need to be smaller than that. 40" would probably be as tall as I could go.

Could you post a picture Of the area you're talking about?

    Here you go.

Ahhhh, I see. I'd go as tall and wide as you can. It only needs to be a couple of inches less than 50 inches. I think you can go taller than 40. Why don't you mock up a mirror with paper to see what looks best.

Well, it will hang about 4 to 6" above the table top and you don't want it right up against the wood on the stair and I'd keep it at least 6" from that.

You may be better off with a round about 26" or so. I'd personally keep the mirror simple due to to the decor on the front of the chest.

Went with a very simple 26" round mirror. It's sits 7" above table, best we could do without drilling new holes, which I was trying to avoid putting more holes in the wall. I think it looks ok. Next question is the lamp. I picked this one up rather inexpensively from Target. Is it ok it should I go with something taller?

The mirror being round is nice for the area. I think it could be lowered a bit, but you might look for a bit taller/larger bowl and only that for the table. I think the lamp is ok, but not liking the gold is all... I'm not against burnished gold, but I'd go with a silver tone for what ever reason that's what I think would look best :)

I think the height is fine... do you have a Home Goods in your area?

I think it could be lowered a bit too but one more inch means patching, new holes so trying to get away with not doing that. I do have a Home Goods but feel like whenever I go in there, they never have buffet lamps.

I find takes a lot of visits to find what you want at HG. The one near me is not the best, then there is one about 40 min away and it's loaded whenever I can get there with almost everything from A-Z.

I think for what ever reason a brushed silver tone or pewter might would look good with a lighter shade... if you don't want to lower it my thought was a bit larger bowl and a bit taller. If you still have paint for that wall, just a little filler and paint. I know it's a hassle. About 2" if you do that.

The gold is growing on me, but I'd try it in a different tone if they have it so you can see. However, looks very nice overall!!!

LOVE the gold lamp! It adds a warmth to the area, and I like that with fall and winter coming, although I'm in Maine and have no idea where you are. :-) The bowl that you have there blends nicely with it, too.

You're right with Home Goods. I have two near me and one is way better than the other. Huh, I never would have thought silver for the lamp as all the tones are goldish in this cabinet. I'm in PA, so not quite as cold as ME but agree about warmth in tones.

    It looks amazing, well done!

I don't dislike the gold gavavemom, I wasn't thinking a full on shiny silver... I didn't know there was gold in this even though I think we found this table and you were worried it was too dark on your floor. I did not remember gold in it? Didn't realize that so perfect, yes. I saw there was a pewter tone lamp. It looks nice and if there is gold in the table, even better!

Here is a pic of the front. I would say gold no?
