Help with paint colors

last modified: 9 years ago

Since my last requests for help were too broad and vague, I've gone ahead and narrowed down some choices so I can get to paint color selection. The house is a 1960s bungalow in a coastal beach-oriented city.

Here is the living room now -listing photo with wide angle lens and washed out colors. We are planning to clean the fireplace and eventually get new doors for it but keep the brick, but considering painting it white especially if we can't clean it well enough. It's not quite as pink as it appears here.

Carpet is going and we will likely be using Mannington Adura Max LVP throughout... pending samples arrival and choice of finish but these are examples of the ones we are considering (2 colors - each a closeup and a room shot). Our furniture is dark brown leather and we will likely add a new chair in a light color once we are settled and know what we need seating wise.

So so I think we will go with BM Revere Pewter in the living room and hallway. From the living room you walk into the dining/kitchen area and hallway to bedrooms on the left (standing where the photographer did the kitchen/dining is behind them).

Here is the dining area with kitchen to the right and the door to thee garage (I hate yellow btw ).

The kitchen will be IKEA - originally we were thinking Asksund light ash wood look cabinets, but I'm concerned about wood tones clashing. So I think we will go with Bodbyn off white. I know the trend and practical reasons for darker lowers, but the Bodbyn grey is very cool/blue and I'm not sure if I want to lock in a color scheme with cabinets. If we do white cabinets it will be a light quartz counter.

I think we will tile backsplash so not much painted wall will be visible in the kitchen, but dining room I don't think we want all Revere Pewter, but I'm at a loss. I was considering some kind of eggplant but I think it would be overwhelming and dark for the space, so I'm not sure what color for that room. It is very bright with the patio door west facing, so I think it would be nice to accentuate that lightness - but a white seems to boring for a room with no features.

The bathrooms here we like revere Pewter but again if it's the LR and hallway color maybe too much in bathrooms as well. I was thinking maybe SW sea salt for both, but maybe greenish is not good for bathrooms (unflattering light)? The full bath has no window the powder room has a big window.

The bedrooms and office I think we've got covered. Master will likely be Wedgwood grey again - love it, office mascarpone with a slate or navy accent wall, and daughter's room a pale aqua.

Any thoughts or tips?
