Where are you putting barn doors , I have only ever used manual ones.

Are you asking whether anyone has MOVED an oil tank from the inside to the outside, or removed an outside oil tank? Most underground oil tanks are very old and should be removed due to possible ground contamination. My oil tank is in the unfinished portion of my basement and I would never move it.

I think you should consider access to the tank if it's not in a shed or some type of protection. What happens when you have 24 inches of snow? What happens if the tank is coated in ice from a sleet storm? If you need to have the tank filled when either of these occurs, the supplier may not be able to pump fuel. You also need to consider the composition of the metal. How will it stand up when exposed to rain and snow.

Perhaps a call to the fuel company could help. They may be able to help you in deciding if a shed for an outside tank is necessary or optional. If it's needed, they should also be able to tell you if there are any building code requirements. Or, call your city or township for code guidelines. Good luck.
