I needed a very large one for a specific tree that I collected from the mountains, and found it at a big pottery place in California. We happened to be there on vacation, and managed to squeeze it into the car for the trip home. The really big nurseries will also have some, such as Portland Nursery in Portland Oregon. It's taken me years to scout out the best places for bonsai pots, but I have a decent stock now for future use. Both Dallas and Ebay have some decent pots for good prices, but it's nice to see them ahead of time, if you can find local sources.

Thanks! I'm learning the same thing. I'm from the opposite coast (Pittsburgh), but I found some relatively affordable pots at one of the larger nurseries, Best Feed. It was a lot cheaper than the ones online, even from eBay or Dallas Bonsai. I got 2 glazed ceramic pots, one 16 inches wide for $49 and one 12 inches wide for $26.

While I don't know how picky you might be to have real bonsai pots, have you considered haunting thrift stores? You might be able to occasionally find ceramics which could be repurposed as pots once you drill one or more drainage holes in them. If your hunt was successful, it would prove to be far less pricey.

Thanks! I found a round bonsai-like pot for $8 at Lowes. Of course I needed the $14 bottom with it, but thats a lot cheaper than most. I tend to have upright plants, which I guess are considered masculine, and thus should go in a square/rectangular "masculine" pot?
