Serger issues

I haven't used my serger in a while, I got frustrated with it, because the right needle thread would not stitch, so P just put it aside for a few years. . The thread didn't break, it just is fed through the machine without stitching the fabric. I decided I wanted to finish some seams, and it was silly not to use the serger since I owned one, so I took it out again, oiled it up and tried to use it, same problem. I can still serge with 3 threads, but I can't seem to figure out why that right needle won't stitch the fabric. I've tried adjusting the tension, replacing the needles, etc. Sergers are wonderful when they work properly, but they can be a bit of a pain to get the tension set right. Anyone have a suggestion that I can do myself, or is this something I need to get serviced on?
