One option 3 - You could paint the closet trim and the doors in the wall color, in whatever gloss level you paint the rest of the trim, maybe semi-gloss? They'd blend in with the wall, and I get the impression that you don't really care for the doors.

Paint isn't permanent. So try option 3. If you don't like it, repaint with option 2.

No I don't want the doors long term but would basically need to rebuild the closest to get doors that I like.

Maybe you could just add a post/beam/narrow wall midway and switch to either bifold doors or French doors on both sides of the new wall section. No need to separate the interior. We have a full wall of closet space like that in one of our guest rooms and that is what the previous owner did. It looks fine and much easier than rebuilding, plus you don't lose any closet space.

Option 3. In fact, in a smallish family room with 7 doors and openings, I painted the whole shebang including doors, closet doors, trim, in an antique white, but the doors and trim were semigloss and the walls were eggshell. It looked very peaceful (good foil to a couple of rambunctious kids)

I would like to do something like cyn427 suggested down the road. I just need something cosmetic to make it decent enough to move in to for now. One room at a time.

So none of you seem to like the idea of painting the panels cloud white like the rest of the trim/doors? That trim part is already done in white now so we are really just talking about that door area.

I like option 3 best, then option 1 next. I think if you paint the trim white, the closet doors should match the other doors. Seems like will be odd to have the closet match the wall but "framed" in white trim.

I have sliders and did option 3. All the other trim in the room is white (window trim, baseboards). It looks good. It takes away the focus from the sliders, and you really just look at the rest of the room. I had originally intended the paint job to be a short term fix, and to replace the sliding doors, but I never bothered because now the sliders are non-issue from a decor standpoint, and they work fine.

those look like nice walnut doors. I wouldn't paint those! you can find plenty of white panel doors to use if you wanted them painted. it's rare to see that type of wood in those doors.

I would replace all the trim and molding to something more modern. frame the doors and closet in a nice white trim

you could do a white trim, maybe add mirrors, handles, etc.

or you could tweet them and give them more of a modern appeal w/metal trim.

or replace them altogether w/something like these (sell yours on Craigslist or something)

Semi Gloss is typically used for trim and doors, and it will seal any grain better than the flat. Use your extra white semi-gloss as the first coat/primer if you want to use it up, although I'd use a 'real' primer on the doors. The doors look like typical hollow core doors to me, but can you take a close-up of them so Beth H can see them? My parents had that type of doors in their house, and they were hollow core. Her ideas are very attractive, but you did say "No extra funds to replace doors or Reno the closet right now."

They are hollow doors. Not worth saving in my opinion.

Agreed, hall and bath doors and trim (and windows and baseboard) go semi gloss white. Closet doors and their trim go wall color.

Semi gloss is nice for easy of wiping off dirt and such. Id say if you have to buy more paint to finish the job, get semi gloss for the doors. If you can do it all with the eggshell you have, just do it. If you hate it down the road, go ahead and buy the semi gloss and add a coat.

Its funny bc I suggested painting hers the same as walls so they sort of disappear bc we feel the same about them - outdated, UGLY and just painted very ugly and not a great paint job done. What are these doors called? i just posted a discussion for my friends closet that is the whole length of wall but has 3 oversized or 36”Wide. We dont know what to google.

2d, these are mid century, walnut sliding closet doors. If they are real walnut, I wouldn't paint them. get something diff and sell yours to a salvage place. they're hard to find.
