Need help with colors

Hi I am looking for a grayish purple color for my dining room that I will not get sick of . My dining room chairs are platinum vinyl in the seat with a fabric back (grey, cream, golds) with nail heads My decorator had suggested I do the adjacent living room in white walls with navy velvet couches and add accent blue patent leather fabric on closet doors in my dining room but the lavender she chose for the dining room walls seems more appropriate for a girls bedroom Can anyone help me with a good color ??
