Yeah I would definitely pick them, at let them cure for a week. They should last till October, if you store them inside in a dry place.

In sunlight? Out of sunlight? Everything is so vague, even my county co op agent couldn't help. When I asked how to cure them they said, "just cure them until done" lol

In my experience, it doesn't seem to matter. I just harvest my pumpkins and bring 'em in the house, and since that's usually well prior to Halloween, whatever constitutes curing happens by then. No special conditions required. Curing guides usually say to leave it in the sun for X days, but if I did that in my climate I bet they'd rot or roast, so I skip it.

I suspect it mainly applies if you're a farming a commercial crop, and you want to make sure you aren't selling fruits to people that are too fresh, tender or green. At least for us regular folks, I really don't think it's as complicated as people make it.

They should easily last indoors until Oct. I've had pumpkins indoors last 6 months and they could've gone longer.
