Meyer lemon tree top split off - can this be saved?

Live in FL and have had meyer lemon container tree since xmas. It was about 4' with nearly 35 lemons in various stages of ripening, Branches were sagging even with support. Came home from vacation to find the top completely split off from too much weight. Trimmed the top and now there are a few leaves rapidly sprouting from nodules on sides, This was a beautiful tree and I would love to save it but wondered how long (or even if) it will take to regrow and produce fruit? Also, have a smaller tree that is also producing. Should I take off smaller fruit or stake it better? Don't want to lose it too! Pic of "stick with leaves" attached, Thanks for help!!
